Summer (June–August)
The green season, cool temperatures and all plateau roads open. Also the busiest period, especially weekends — request accommodation early.
Spring and autumn
May and October are quieter and beautiful, though the highest plateau tracks may still be closed by snow in May.
Winter
Snow, hot springs and very few visitors. The Ayder road is normally kept open but plateau tours stop.
