Where the airport is
Rize–Artvin Airport (RZV) is built on the sea between Rize and Pazar. From the terminal you rejoin the coastal highway and continue east to Ardeşen, then turn inland for Çamlıhemşin and Ayder — commonly planned as around two hours, which is roughly an hour less than from Trabzon.
Choosing between RZV and TZX
Trabzon has more flights and more connections; Rize–Artvin has a shorter drive. If your flight times are similar, RZV usually means a calmer arrival for families. If you are combining Ayder with Trabzon city, Sumela or Uzungöl, TZX is often the better base.
Late arrivals
Many Gulf itineraries land in the evening. The valley road is unlit in places, so a pre-booked driver waiting at arrivals removes the hardest part of a night arrival. If you land after midnight, some travellers prefer one night on the coast and drive up to Ayder after breakfast.
What to arrange before you fly
Confirm four things in advance: vehicle size for your group and suitcases, child seats if needed, whether the driver meets you inside the terminal, and the return pick-up time for your departure. Send your flight number so the driver can track delays.
